Stupid "Holiday"

Today for us wasn't any dumb holiday or a memory of a shooting, or even a totalitarianist's birthday. It was just a regular day. Yesterday was Ollie's 6m checkup. He's 3 lbs under what he should be, putting him in the 1% for weight. Our pedi attributes that to high metabolism and burning off empty veg/fruit calories. She suggested more food. I'm lookling into supplementing him though. He's overall healthy at least! 27.5 inches long!
Yesterday he also got to see the Easter bunny! He wasn't too thrilled at first until I jumped behind the camera and made him smile : ) Dave and I got Friendly's, complete with sundaes and Ollie got new shorts from Target.







Today Ollie and I just hung around till Dave got home from work. Then we all headed to the park for some swing time! Afterwards we grabbed a pizza and are currently ready for some much needed rest in the a/c! It got up to 82• today! Phew!

Weekend Recap

I guess our weekend really started Thursday afternoon when Dave got done work. We took a walk to a local park so Ollie could test out the baby swings. It was almost 70 degreees out. Since Dave didn't work Friday, we decided to head down into the city for the afternoon.










We took the train down around noon. After some misshaps and a pee soaked blanket we headed down to a favorite playground of mine on South street, Starr Garden. Before the park we ate at an all vegan restaurant/pizzeria, Blackbird Pizzeria. Dave had a "pepperoni" pizza slice and we split a seitan cheesesteak while Ollie gulped down a bottle of mama milk. I think thier food is a little overpriced, but I understand why. Vegan cheese, in particular Daiya, is expensive. I still like my cheesesteak better but oh well.





At the park we met up with Aunt Gabby and her fiancé Jordan. She took a bunch of cute pictures of Ollie and babytalked him about how adorable he was. Ollie is about half Gabby's size, so seeing her holding him is kinds funny but really cute. Then our friend Haley stopped by with her new little 1 month old Boy, Shepard. He was just precious, and had a full head of hair! He's becoming such a big boy, it's amazing how fast they grow. It feels like just yesterday Ollie was that big! Soon Ollie will be crawling and biting with his new teeth! Speaking of which, he's teething and was a fusspot all weekend, ugh.
Later Friday, after we got home, Aunt Sally came over to finish my hair. Were slowly bleaching sections blonde, as to not fry my hair. It's a lot lighter now then last weekend! She stayed over till Saturday afternoon and after she left I collapsed into our bed with Oliver and watched movies all night from there. I was so tired from walking all day in the sun on Friday. It got up to 77 degrees! Felt like 80 to me. Sunday was spent folding 4 loads of laundry and seperating baby clothes into "size now" piles.


Ollie loves playing drums with da-da! He's more musically inclined at 22 weeks old then I am at 24 years Old!

Valentine's Day Massacre

Valentine's day this year was bittersweet. The day itself was pretty sweet, the night portion...not so much. It wasn't anything to do with not having romance or the right setting, it was just...other crap. Instead of getting to spend some quiet time together, snuggled on the couch, it was spent yelling, and complaining and venting to each other. Even though it wasn't perfect I wouldn't trade it for the the world...things like that just make me love and trust Dave even more. He is my best friend and truly my soulmate. I love him.
For V-day this year I decided to "think outside the box". I got both Ollie and Dave vintage valentine cards from the 50's. Ollie got new jammies, and a pacifier holder for his Soothie. I got Dave a variety package of candied and chocolate bacons and a pocket size comic book. He also stepped outside the box and got me an Ergo Backpack diaper bag (which we desperately needed) and some chocolates. But the best thing was this homemade card : )



The best thing about yesterday was that Ollie's main gift was a trip to the park for the first time! It was in the 60's here so I wrapped him up and tested about our baby carrier and away we went. It was amazing. He was looking all around smiling and wide eyed. He was really taken back by all the different senses. When we got to the park we put him in the baby swing with a blanket around him and watched as he decided whether he wanted to cry or laugh! He didn't do either. He was kinda freaked out, but eventually began to enjoy it!

Number 1.) Fisher Price Ocean Wonders Soothe & Glow Seahorse

This seahorse was purchased at Kohls with a gift card I got after having Ollie. Anytime I get a gift card, I spend the whole thing on him, on stuff he needs. As soon as I saw this on the shelf I knew I had to buy it then and put it away for Christmas. Christmas night he slept with it and has every night since. He loves having it right next to him in the co-sleeper while he drifts to sleep. We love it cause it has a light in it's belly, illuminating his little face while he sleeps. It plays soft music with bubbling noises in the backround. I can't imagine not falling a sleep to it now.

Number 2.) Bright Starts Links



These links may seem really simple and almost pointless, but they serve many purposes. Not only do they link to the carseat carrier, the swing, the stroller and the carseat handle, but they by them selves make the perfect teething toy. They fit so perfectly in Oliver's little hand and he loves mouthing on the diffrently colored links. When linked to a loop on a toy they can cannot to virtually anything you can imagine. Point being: their great.

Number 3.) Boppy



I've never sat up and breastfed my son without the Boppy safetly secured under him and around my waist. I'm sure that seems spoiled sounding to those of you without one, but honestly I don't think I could breastfeed comfortably without it. If you plan on breastfeeding, I recommend having one in your posession. They may seem kinda pricey for a "pillow" but now that Ollie's older it serves even more uses. I use it to keep him sitting in my lap, laying down with it wrapped around him, and with him on his tummy facing out and holding his head up. It's a true miracle worker.

Number 4.) Soothie Pacifier



When we brought Oliver home from the hospital he had already tasted the sweet joy of a "mippy", (me and mom have always called pacifiers mippy, call it what you may..binky, paci, etc.)and loved it, as I did till 3 years old. He had a Nuk one and seemed content. 3 days after brinGinger him home I was out shopping for him with a gift card I recieved. Along with the swaddle sacks I picked up was a free Soothie, already steralized. I thought I was ridiculous and too big for his face. He loved it. And still does. I find Dave and myself saying "where's soothie?!" at least 10 times a day. It's not glued to his mouth and he doesn't need it to sleep, but when he does need it...it's a LIFE SAVER. We bought around 10 after the first and hid them all around the house just "in case".

Number 5.) Fisher Price Ocean Wonders SpaceSaver Swing & Seat



For the first 2 weeks of life, this was our little mans bed. He slept so sound in it with the "Calming Vibrations" on and soft music on low. I was terrified of him not being within arms reach of me, so every night I'd place him in a swaddle and in the swing. It was easy and he loved it. It was hell getting him even into the co-sleeper from that. With it's rounded out bucket seat and cozy padded walls I don't blame him for being mad about leaving it. It's been so helpful in getting chores done while he sits peacefully or sleeps soundly. It creates the perfect little nook for him that only my lap and arms can out-do.
